Assessment for ASD

Comprehensive Autism Testing for Insightful, Tailored Support

Through our comprehensive autism testing, families gain a clear understanding of their child’s developmental profile and the personalized support strategies that can help them thrive.

As awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) continues to grow, many parents are seeking answers about their child’s unique behaviors, communication, or sensory experiences. If you’ve noticed differences in how your child interacts or engages with the world, you may be wondering if these are linked to ASD.

At Webb Psychological Services, our in-depth autism evaluations offer vital insights into your child’s needs and strengths. With our guidance, you can navigate the assessment process confidently, building a strong foundation for your child’s growth and well-being.

You May Be Wondering

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder is a spectrum because there’s no one-size-fits-all experience of it. Individuals with ASD may communicate, relate to others, or respond to sensory input differently, but these differences are not deficits. Instead, they reflect the rich diversity of human neurodevelopment. ASD often manifests in a variety of ways, including differences in social communication, specialized interests, or a preference for routine.

A diagnosis can help provide a clearer understanding of behaviors or experiences that might have been previously misunderstood. While early identification is important, many adults seek an ASD diagnosis later in life to gain a deeper understanding of their identity and needs.

  • Many parents hesitate to seek an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessment because they may assume their child’s behaviors—such as difficulty with social interactions or a strong focus on certain interests—are just part of their unique personality or typical child development. While every child is indeed unique, there are times when these differences may indicate an underlying neurodevelopmental condition like ASD.

ASD assessments are designed to give a thorough and compassionate understanding of your child’s social, communication, and sensory experiences. These evaluations are conducted by trained professionals who are skilled at distinguishing between developmental quirks and genuine challenges. The goal isn’t just to provide a diagnosis but to offer a personalized understanding of how your child perceives and interacts with the world, helping you to better support their growth and well-being.

If you're noticing behaviors like difficulty forming friendships, intense focus on specific interests, sensitivity to sensory input, or struggles with adapting to changes, an assessment can provide clarity and guidance.

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) presents differently in every individual, but there are some common signs that may suggest an assessment could be helpful. If your child, teen, or even yourself exhibits some of the following behaviors, it may be time to consider an ASD evaluation:

    • Difficulties understanding social cues or forming friendships

    • Strong interests in specific topics or hobbies

    • Sensory sensitivities (e.g., aversions to certain sounds, lights, or textures)

    • A preference for routine and discomfort with changes

    • Delayed language or motor skills in childhood

    • Repetitive movements or behaviors

    • Challenges with flexible thinking or adapting to new situations

How Is Autism (ASD) Diagnosed?

At Webb Psychological Services, we aim to make the ASD assessment process as clear and accessible as possible. Understanding the complexities of autism, we conduct thorough evaluations that capture each child’s unique strengths and needs. To support you as an active partner in preparing for your child’s testing, we’ve outlined the key steps below.

  • The ASD testing process begins with you completing an inquiry form to share some initial information about your child. Once we review the form, we’ll schedule a 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your concerns and help ensure that our ASD testing is the right fit for your family. If it’s a good match, we’ll then set up an in-depth intake interview session to begin the assessment process.

  • This 60 to 90-minute initial appointment allows us to dive a little deeper into your child’s current situation, history, concerns, referral questions, and goals for the ASD testing process.

  • In almost all cases, we schedule assessments over the course of two days. Because each person receives a completely individualized testing battery and they take varying amounts of time to complete assessments, we won’t be able to give you an exact time, but most evaluations take between 5 and 7 hours split between the two sessions. In addition to providing testing to the child, we will also provide questionnaires for caregivers and educators to complete.

  • All the assessments, questionnaires, medical details, academic records, and other information gathered will be carefully reviewed. If needed, we may reach out to parents or educators to gain further insight.

  • About 4 weeks after the assessment sessions are completed, we will meet with parents to review findings and diagnoses as well as answering questions. Within 48 hours of this final session, we will provide a complete written report. For adolescents and teens, we may also provide an individual 30-minute feedback session to answer any questions they have.
